How to play Carrom

Start Carrom by looking at the playing area and its controls. Clear your nine carrom men after the queen is covered. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls. Check the rule that explains your first action. Use the example below to understand a decision.

Play a casual Carrom match using the house rules shown here. Tournament penalties and multi-board match scoring are not used.

Build a steady rhythm

Take enough time to read a new position. If a game has a timer, learn its controls first rather than searching for them during the round. Notice the feedback after each input.

Your goal

Clear your nine carrom men after the queen is covered. An attractive position is not enough unless the goal is met. Review the board or playing area as it changes.

Step by step

  1. White starts; set striker aim and power.
  2. Own-colour pockets earn another shot.
  3. Cover the queen with an own-colour man in the same or next shot.
  4. Striker fouls return one own pocketed man if available.
  5. Finish your colour after a covered queen.

Controls

Touch to aim; sliders set power and angle; striker-position controls and Shoot. A careful first action helps you become familiar with the layout. Make sure you are interacting with the game rather than the surrounding page.

A useful example

Queen and own man in one legal shot cover immediately. Use the example as a guide rather than a substitute for reading your board. Verify the rule before continuing.

Watch out for this

The last own man returns if the queen remains uncovered. Take a moment to reassess the position before continuing. Before your first action, say what you are trying to achieve. Then compare the result with the goal.
